Inspired by the beauty and the wildness of the vibrant underwater world, Versacepolis, or else Versace’s Spring-Summer 2021 collection, invited us to dive in and enjoy an amazing fantasy dream space ruled by Medusa and populated by strong and confident men and women. For the record, Medusa was once the most beautiful woman in Athens but her charms did not go unnoticed by Athena who scolded and banished her in a jealous rage. Set on a sandy sea-bed catwalk bathed in blue light, with fallen columns, decaying arches and the remains of an underwater city, the Maison creates an ode to signature Versace sensuality. Of course, “La Medusa”, the new handbag line introduced this season, which boasts the mythical ruler of #Versacepolis was undoubtedly the highlight of the collection, featured in a palette of exuberant bold colors.
Do you know that over 80% of the ocean is completely unexplored, unmapped, and unseen by the human eye? Well, a far greater percentage of the moon’s surfaces have been studied and recorded than the ocean floor has. The deep blue waters remain a mystery and that’s why Donatella Versace travels us to explore the seabed settlement of #Versacepolis where mythology meets the reality of the unknown in a unique way. The water can be rough, but it can also cleanse, soothe, and refresh.

Glossy visages, wet-look hair slicked down over ears and across foreheads, and a lustrous shine on limbs combined with vibrant hues of neon pink, orange, and electric red lipsticks brought a sexy ocean-fresh air on the runway. Bright starfish, splashy coral and seahorse prints, mood-elevating colors, designs with an upbeat character and joyous spirit, dynamic and zesty prints, crystal-encrusted bustier tops, fluid fabrics, and ruffled skirts emulating the movement waves made up the whole collection, showing off a relaxed confidence married with an empowered attitude that looks to the future with optimism and hope. The swimwear also came with a sustainable caveat with her highlighting that sustainability is her next war.
