Soothe & moisturize your skin immediately after sunbathing!
Love tanning but hate dehydrated skin? Well, Leandra Cohen’s famous quote “Love Summer but Hate Everything Else” is so true. Even if we use sunscreen and take all the necessary precautions against the harmful UVA and UVB rays when lying under the sun we cannot skip the unpleasant experience of dry skin. That’s why a good after sun lotion plays a big role in our total skin health now and in the long term. So this time we at Gals and the City suggest you make a DIY natural after-sun lotion to nourish your dehydrated skin and help relieve your sunburn.
We’ve already tested it on us and trust this is the absolute DIY after sun lotion you could ever use! Don’t forget that the sun causes premature skin-aging and especially when we forget to moisturize our skin after exposure to solar radiation we augment the risk of dehydration and unwanted loose skin.
Our favorite ingredient is Cocoa Butter; one of nature’s best products loaded with precious fatty acids which improves significantly skin elasticity. Another helpful ingredient is Aloe Vera; a powerful source of crucial anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that helps reduce pain and redness, stimulating collagen production as well as helping the healing process by improving skin firmness and elasticity. Without any shadow of a doubt, the best way is to take the gel straight from the plant itself or use a product that is close to 100% aloe vera. Keep in mind, we need pure and natural aloe gel for the best results. And here comes lavender essential oil! Well, besides smelling great, lavender oil is an ideal option not only for your irritated skin but also to relax your body and mind. But could we make lotion without oils? Nope! Last but not least, the oils we are gonna add to our mixture penetrate deep into the skin without clogging the pores. Instead, packed with important antioxidants they help neutralize free radicals as well as treat sunburned skin and relieve symptoms such as itching and peeling.
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoon cocoa butter
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 3 tablespoons aloe vera gel
- 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil (suggested lavender)
Put the all ingredients in a bowl and keep mixing them until you see it gets creamy and homogenized. It’s ready! Simple, isn’t it? Now take your lotion and place it in a jar. Don’t forget to store it in a cool and dark place – we suggest you put it in the fridge – if you want to last longer so as to use it throughout the summer!
By and large, if you get sunburned, or just want to hydrate your skin after a long day swimming and tanning, this DIY lotion will definitely soothe your irritated and dehydrated skin immediately! Plus we are talking about a homemade cream without any additional substances and chemicals that commercial products may have. Tace care your sexy bronze body in a simple and natural way and ensure you stay moisturized all summer long!
